FUTURISTIC TURN
OF K-HUMANITIES
We explore the identity of K-Culture and the potential of Korean studies as an alternative canon.
We survey the history of efforts to canonize and systematize Korean studies in relation to the Other, and establish a K-Humanities database.
We establish new normative standards for Korean culture and expand the academic foundations necessary for Korea to become an active sender in an era of civilizational transformation.
We organize these achievements through digital technologies and disseminate them for civic education
As globalization accelerates and digital technologies and artificial intelligence advance, we find ourselves in a transitional situation in which existing systems of the canon are being rendered obsolete. At the same time, there is a growing demand for new universals and norms to be formed through pluralistic participation.
“Culture and the Canon” critically reexamines the concept of the canon, while exploring ways to apply digital technologies to establishing and disseminating the foundations of K-Humanities. It also investigates the polyphonic and transversal character of K-Culture and seeks to expand Korean studies toward the horizon of universal humanities.
